Calcium Chloride Flakes (dihydrate and anhydrous)

BELL Company manufactures two kinds of calcium chloride flakes- dihydrate and anhydrous. Dihydrate flakes with the assay of 74-80% calcium chloride,  while anhydrous with 94-97%. Flake calcium chloride is made by steaming and concentrating liquid calcium chloride, cooling, and crystallization, drying and dehydrating. The process is labor-intensive, the product recovery rate is low, the water content and impurities are high, and the product shape is irregular.

3. Advantage

The advantages of calcium chloride flakes are that they provide a large flat surface area and stay put when applied. They also easily pass through various ice melt spreaders, including home-style walk behind spreaders and  commercial grade spreaders and equipment. Flakes are desirable when mixing with other dry products used to remove snow and ice, like salt, sand. Typically, flakes are cheap and more cost effective than granular and pellets.

The differences between Dihydrate flakes and anhydrous flakes.

1. Dihydrate Flakes contains 74%-80% calcium chloride, Anhydrous Flakes contains 90%-97% calcium chloride.

2. Dihydrate Flakes are whiter than Anhydrous Flakes in color.

3. Dihydrate Flakes are cheaper than Anhydrous Flakes in cost.

4. Dihydrate Flakes are thinner than Anhydrous Flakes in shape.
